Origin Story

YOU.FO began with a simple childhood memory. As a teenager, Bas Ruyssenaars discovered that his dog’s rubber ring, launched with a long wooden stick, could soar remarkable distances. Years later, that memory resurfaced through an unexpected source: Johan Huizinga’s Homo Ludens, and its idea that play sits at the very heart of human life. During a family summer holiday in 2010, Bas made a list of ideas to bring his dream — getting more people around the world moving, playing and connecting — to life. One entry on that list was the rediscovery of his childhood game, and that spark became the starting point of YOU.FO.

Bas decided to turn the idea into a dynamic and fun sports and leisure game, to create his own innovation and bring joy and happiness to the world. After handcrafting the initial sticks and rings, he tested the game with family and friends, before gathering a team — industrial designer Arnold Jager, an aerodynamics professor, and sports professionals Giel Bos and Tim Konings — to help make his dream come to life. As inventor, founder and entrepreneur, Bas went on to lead the development of the product, the game and the sport, while building the patents, brand protection, funding and market foundation that YOU.FO stands on today.

About Us

Next to the patented sports product, inventor and independent entrepreneur Bas Ruyssenaars further developed, commissioned and patented the now official sports game YOU.FO RingCross, which is currently one of the fastest-growing sports games worldwide, already played in 30+ countries.

Giel Bos has been part of that journey since the early development years and remains an important force supporting Bas on a daily basis in growing YOU.FO RingCross worldwide. Giel has also been an amazing excellerator in the growth of our PE programs, events and World Cups. Early contributors such as Arnold Jager and Johan van der Woude are also still valued members of our team today, as are our partners in Korea, Japan, China, India, Belgium and beyond, who keep growing YOU.FO RingCross in their own countries and communities.One look at YOU.FO and you could easily describe it as a hybrid between frisbee and lacrosse. But this innovative and award-winning sports and leisure game has a much bigger story to tell.
